Indonesia seeks EU-linked farm cooperation with Poland

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia and Poland are exploring agricultural cooperation to strengthen food security and boost productivity amid global challenges through technology, investment, and sustainable resource development.Indonesia's Deputy Agriculture Minister Sudaryono made the remarks while receiving Poland's Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Małgorzata Gromadzka in Jakarta on Monday. He said Indonesia continues to promote stronger international cooperation in agriculture as a strategic step to safeguard food security, including leveraging opportunities from the European Union (EU) free trade agreement.”Indonesia is an open country. We are non-aligned, and we are ready to cooperate with anyone, including in trade, both exports and imports, as well as investment,” he said.He stressed that amid global pressures such as conflicts, wars, and supply chain disruptions, cooperation must be concrete through expanded market access, simplified technical procedures, and stronger agricultural investment and research.During the meeting, both countries discussed opportunities and challenges in trading strategic commodities.Poland is seeking to export products such as beef, dairy, wheat, and berries, while Indonesia emphasized the importance of meeting health standards, veterinary certification, and audit requirements before market access is granted.Indonesia also maintains a cautious stance on certain commodities, such as poultry, due to biosecurity concerns and the need to protect domestic production. However, opportunities remain open for other commodities that meet technical standards and domestic demand. The two countries agreed to strengthen cooperation through a technical working group to accelerate trade protocols, including for beef and dairy products.Cooperation will also be expanded through business meetings, investment exploration, and potential signing of a memorandum of understanding to support long-term collaboration.Gromadzka said cooperation with Indonesia has strong potential, as both countries have complementary production characteristics.”I am very pleased to visit Indonesia and discuss agricultural products. We cooperate in the exchange of agricultural products,” she said. She also highlighted Poland's role as a gateway to the European market and viewed Indonesia as a key partner in Asia. She expressed hope that the partnership would not only increase trade volume but also create a more balanced, sustainable, and mutually beneficial relationship in addressing global food challenges.
