Ministry, OJK collaborate to accelerate financing access for MSMEs

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and the Financial Services Authority (OJK) are collaborating to accelerate financing access for small businesses across Indonesia.”We have just signed an MoU (memorandum of understanding) to speed things up,” MSME Minister Maman Abdurrahman told reporters after the MSME Finance Summit 2026 in Jakarta on Tuesday. As of August 2025, Indonesia was home to 56.68 million MSMEs, with micro-enterprises accounting for 96.8 percent, small businesses 1.7 percent, and medium enterprises 1.86 percent.According to Abdurrahman, MSMEs contribute significantly to the national economy, lower poverty rates, create jobs, and boost export performance. However, structural challenges remain, including the need for dynamic data support, broader access to financing, streamlined licensing, and improved market access.Under the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), the target ratio for MSME loans relative to total bank lending is set at 25 percent by 2029.Currently, out of total bank lending reaching Rp 9,019 trillion ($506 billion), non-MSME sectors account for Rp 7,506 trillion (83.3 percent), while MSMEs receive only Rp 1,513 trillion (16.7 percent).”While we aim to boost access to financing for the MSME sector, this must be matched by securing the market,” Abdurrahman stressed, adding that market security ensures businesses can sell their goods after receiving funds. As part of efforts to protect local businesses, the Indonesian government has also restricted the influx of imported goods into the country.OJK Board of Commissioners Chair Friderica Widyasari Dewi added that her agency is forming a joint task force with the MSME Ministry to support business growth.”One of our priorities is securing funding and financing from the financial services sector, as well as helping MSMEs scale up so they can serve as a primary driver of Indonesia's economic growth,” she said.
