Need to strengthen skills as key to navigate AI disruptions: Minister

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Manpower Minister Yassierli has highlighted the need to strengthen skills as a primary strategy for workers to navigate disruptions caused by artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics in the modern workforce.”I am confident that through togetherness and collaboration, we are ready to face these changes. Our spirit at the Ministry of Manpower is to address this with the principle of inclusivity – ensuring that no one is left behind,” he stated in a statement on Monday. The minister further said that any change or disruption in industries must be prevented from causing workers to be left behind, laid off, or marginalized. He stressed that the “no one left behind” spirit is not merely a slogan but must be realized through concrete action. In this regard, the Ministry of Manpower has invited labor unions to collaborate on upskilling and reskilling programs to improve the workforce's readiness for shifts in the industrial sector.”Last year, we trained 700 productivity experts and conducted occupational safety and health (OSH) training at more than 63 locations involving labor union representatives. We will continue to implement these programs,” he said.Minister Yassierli expressed hope that labor unions could actively utilize 42 training centers owned by the ministry nationwide as hubs for competency improvement. He emphasized that future challenges can only be addressed through upskilling and reskilling, as evolving industry demands continue to require new competencies.Furthermore, the minister touched upon the importance of developing green jobs as a response to the green economic transformation, adding that the Indonesian workforce must also be prepared with a new character and relevant competencies through concrete and measurable steps.
